GEDCOM 7.0 was finalized in 2021, but adoption across genealogy software has been gradual and uneven. This is a sourced snapshot of where major platforms stand, since guessing wrong about your software's support wastes time you could spend just exporting in the version that actually works.

Family Historian (Calico Pie) — listed on FamilySearch's tracker as of March 2023, Windows.

Reunion 14 (Leister Productions) — listed as of March 2024, Mac only; earlier Reunion versions do not support it.

MacFamilyTree 10 (Synium Software) — listed as of February 2022, macOS.

Ancestris — listed as of June 2024, cross-platform (Windows, Mac, Linux).

Heredis 2023 — listed as of March 2023, with an important caveat: FamilySearch's own tracker notes this as import only, not export. The same applies to Heredis Online.

Gramps — the open-source genealogy program has added GEDCOM 7.0 support in recent releases; because it's actively developed and versioned differently from commercial software, check your specific installed version's changelog rather than assuming based on the program name alone.

Software where support is partial, unconfirmed, or pending

RootsMagic — listed as "TBD" on FamilySearch's own tracker. Independent user reports on RootsMagic's community forum describe import support for GEDCOM 7 files, but export capability remaining unavailable as of the most recent discussion we found — worth confirming against your specific installed version before relying on it.

Ancestry.com / Family Tree Maker — FamilySearch's tracker lists a target date of March 2026 for Ancestry.com, but Ancestry's own current export functionality remains GEDCOM 5.5.1 as of this writing, with no independently confirmed public rollout of 7.0 export. Treat this as pending rather than live.

MyHeritage — listed as "TBD" on FamilySearch's tracker; current exports remain GEDCOM 5.5.1, with media and source structure reported lost on export regardless of version.

FamilySearch's own systems (FamilySearch.org/mytrees, FamilySearch Export) — also listed as "TBD" on FamilySearch's own tracker, which is a genuinely notable detail: the organization that authored the GEDCOM 7.0 specification has not yet listed a completion date for its own system-wide rollout.

What this means practically

If you're moving a file between two specific programs, check both ends' status individually rather than assuming version compatibility — a 7.0 file exported from one program that only partially supports the format (import-only, in Heredis's case, for example) can behave unpredictably in the other.
