About GEDCOM Fix

GEDCOM Fix exists to solve one specific, recurring problem: genealogists with large family trees who try to upload a GEDCOM file to FamilySearch — and watch it fail, hang, or silently lose data — with no clear explanation of why.

That problem is well documented across FamilySearch's own community forums, but no existing tool diagnoses it before you attempt the upload, or helps you extract a working subset of your tree if your file is the problem. That's the gap this site is built to close, starting with the Upload Readiness Checker and Tree Splitter.

How the tools work

Every tool on this site parses your GEDCOM file entirely in your browser. Your file is never uploaded to our servers, stored, or transmitted anywhere — the parsing happens locally, in JavaScript running on your own device, the same way a desktop program would read it. How we source our claims

Where this site states a specific number — a file size limit, a reported failure pattern — it's backed by either a platform's own published documentation or documented community reports, cited directly in the relevant guide. Where we don't have a confirmed number, we say so, rather than presenting a guess as fact.
